Ledgers
We share a digital news ledger once a month, featuring information about fragrance, upcoming new scents, and updates from Nose of Gatsby. Here, we have listed all of our previous news ledgers.
September Edition, 2024
In September, our newsletter embraces the arrival of fall, highlighting how seasonal changes affect both plants and humans. Gatsby recommends slowing down, drinking warm antioxidant-rich green teas, and incorporating nutritious vegetable soups, while also suggesting bi-weekly deep cleans for the skin as the air dries out. The newsletter marks the Autumnal Equinox on September 22nd, discussing its cultural and astronomical significance, from ancient Mayan and Druidic rituals to the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival on September 17th, celebrated with lanterns, barbecues, and mooncakes. Gatsby also adds a playful nod to The Lord of the Rings, noting that September 22nd is the shared birthday of Bilbo and Frodo Baggins and the start of Tolkien Week, significant this year as 2024 celebrates the 70th anniversary of The Fellowship of the Ring.
August Edition, 2024
This August, we reflect on the deep bond between scent and memory, much like Proust’s “madeleine moment” or Tony Soprano’s panic triggered by capocollo. Traveling through Japan and Taiwan, we experienced this firsthand—the sweetness of mango shaved ice in Taipei, the stillness of a lotus pond in Ueno, and the sharp pine scent during a walk in Tokyo’s Imperial Palace. These moments, captured in scent, inspire our work at Nose of Gatsby.
July Edition, 2024
The July edition of Nose of Gatsby focuses on summer beach getaways, featuring beautiful beach destinations like Kenting in Taiwan, Perissa in Greece, Mazzaro in Sicily, Hulopoʻe in Hawaii, and Baby Beach in Aruba. Each beach serves as inspiration for the brand’s newest fragrance, SINGLE SHOT, which captures the essence of the ocean with notes of yuzu, sea breeze, gin, and eucalyptus. The newsletter also highlights their pop-up at Fumerie Parfumerie in Portland, featuring their range of products, including the nurturing Liquid Salve and perfume collections. We express gratitude for international reviews and provide event and stockist information for July and August.
June Edition, 2024
The June edition of Nose of Gatsby introduces new partnerships with MANTEL PDX in Portland and Kingdom Fragrances online, where select perfumes like AURA and FANTÔME are now available. They also announce their upcoming residency at Fumerie Parfumerie in Portland for July. A bittersweet farewell is given to Utility Works Seattle, a longtime partner, as the store prepares to close in mid-June. The newsletter also features a selection of summer cocktail recommendations like Piña Colada, Cosmopolitan, and Mojito, and provides event information for their June pop-ups. Additionally, readers are teased about new products to be revealed at future events.
May Edition, 2024
The May edition of Nose of Gatsby highlights several awards and behind-the-scenes moments from April. The brand's FANTÔME Eau de Parfum won Best Woody Fragrance from Askmen.com, while BURNING PIANO received an Artisan Honorable Mention at the Art and Olfaction Fragrance Awards. Additionally, AURA Eau de Parfum earned the Best Woody Fragrance award at the Golden Pineapple Fragrance Awards in Costa Mesa, California.
March Edition, 2024
The March edition of Nose of Gatsby celebrates the release of their 10th fragrance, NAIVE, featuring a fresh floral scent with notes of youthful fig juice, hay-like tobacco, incense, and sandalwood, all enriched with a clean Taiwanese black tea accord. The newsletter reflects on childhood memories associated with the Spring Festival in Taiwan, highlighting traditions like hotpot meals and receiving lucky money in fragrant red envelopes. It also introduces Ruby Black Tea, renowned for its smooth, slightly floral flavor, and provides brewing tips to help avoid bitterness.
February Edition, 2024
The February newsletter from Nose of Gatsby shares exciting news as four of their creations have been nominated for the 4th Golden Pineapple Fragrance Awards. AURA is recognized in the Best Woody Fragrances category, while TRANQUIL and SUPERBLOOM are nominated for Best Floral Fragrances. Additionally, DOUBLE ESPRESSO, recently released, has been nominated for Best Winter Fragrance. Founder Gatsby Yeh is also nominated for Best Perfumer of the Year, and Nose of Gatsby for Best Fragrance House of the Year. The winners will be announced at an event in Orange County on April 27th. Gatsby expresses gratitude to supporters, emphasizing the honor of these nominations.
